6,636 books donated to 30 secondary schools in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 17, 2019 (BSS) – The Asia Foundation with assistance of Pubali Bank Limited (PBL) donated 6,636 Bangla and English language books worth Taka 86 lakh to 30 secondary level schools of the district here on Monday afternoon.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam as the chief guest distributed the donated books among students and teachers of the schools in a held at Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) auditorium in the city.

The Asia Foundation with assistance of Pubali Bank Limited (PBL) organised the book donation event presided over by Deputy General Manager of PBL Md. Kamruzzaman.

The books were donated aiming at promote importance of books in human life to acquire knowledge and become enlightened citizens and inspiriting the students and school teachers of the district in building book reading habits.

The donated books will be put in the libraries of the educational institutions for reading by the students and teachers.

Presided over by Senior Director of the Asia Foundation Md. Nazrul Islam, Deputy Director of Dinajpur Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Md. Akhteruzzaman, RCCI President Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu, Deputy General Manager of PBL at its Rangpur Zonal Office Md Kamruzzaman addressed the even as special guest.

Programme Manager of the Asia Foundation Ms. Sukla Dey moderated the event participated by representatives of different schools, teachers and students of the book-recipient educational institutions.

In his welcome speech, Nazrul Islam said the Asia Foundation donates thousands of new books annually to academic institutions, libraries, nonprofit and government offices across the country through its Books for Asia Programme.

The chief guest appreciated the book donation initiative of the Asia Foundation focusing on promoting reading habits among students and teachers and spreading education for girls and children of the underprivileged, ethnic and rural communities.

“The student life is the best time of life for reading books. The tendency and chance for reading books starts decreasing with growing age,” he said and urged students to make up a habit of various book reading to acquire multidimensional knowledge.
