Lemon cultivation gaining popularity in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, Sept 17, 2019 (BSS) – Cultivation of lemon is becoming popular
among farmers in all five upazilas of Panchagarh district due to good
production along with fair prices.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office said a total of 250
bighas of land have been brought under the lemon cultivation this year in the
five upazilas.

Many farmers in the district have become self-reliant and changed their
lot through the lemon cultivation during the last few years.

Farmers of Panchagarh district have been cultivating different types of
high yielding lemon varieties commercially.

Hirmbo Chandra, a lemon grower of Shahapara village under Debiganj
upazila, said, “I have been getting handsome profit through cultivating lemon
on commercial basis for the last several years.”

“I have cultivated lemon on three bighas of land spending Taka 45,000. I
am expecting to earn Taka 70,000 net profit from the lemon production,” said
Akter Ali, a farmer of Sabouspara village under Boda upazila.
