Films portray history of people, their tales: Hasan

DHAKA, Sept 15, 2019 (BSS) – Equating films with mirrors of the society, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said a film portrays the history of people, their lifestyle, and their tales of sorrows and happiness.

“Films play an outstanding role in depicting the life of people and their (people) thoughts,” he said, inaugurating the first-ever Bangladesh Films Festival at Agartala Rabindra Shatabarskhiki auditorium in India.

The information minister said the films effectively play an encouraging role in augmenting the relations among the peoples.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Agartala organized the festival in collaboration with the Information Ministry, said a release, received here today.

Agriculture, Transport, and Tourism Minister of Tripura Pranajit Singha Roy addressed the function as the guest of honour.

Bangladesh Film Development Corporation Managing Director Abdul Karim and senior journalist, who received award for his outstanding contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh, Swapan Bhattacharjee also spoke at the function with Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Kirity Chakma in the chair.

Recalling the contributions of the people of Tripura to the War of Liberation, Dr Hasan said the citizens of Tripura not only opened the doors of the state for Bangladeshis, but also displayed their openness of mind for welcoming them during their hard-time.

The outstanding contributions of the people of Tripura as well as India will ever be remembered, the minister said.

Pranajit Singha said, “This is our responsibility to speed up the initiatives undertaken by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Premier Narendra Modi to strengthen the relations of the two countries.”

Later, Dr Hasan Mahmud handed over a replica of ‘Boat’ to the agriculture minister of Tripura and honorary crests to 13 Indian citizens for their outstanding contributions to the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

A total of 20 films are being screened in the three-day film festival.

Awami League Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam, Department of Films and Publications Director General Mohammad Istaq Hossain, Film Director Association President Mushfiqur Rahman Guljer and Bangladesh Deputy High Commission First Secretary-(press) Md Mofakharul Iqbal, among others, were present at the function.
