Bangladesh to be a 24th economic power by 2033, Kamal tells JS

SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 12, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh will be emerged as the 24th economic power in the world by 2033 and the size of our GDP will be one trillion US dollars.

“Bangladesh is now ranking the 41st position as an economic power across the world… it will be 36th position by 2023, 27th position by 2028 and 24th position by 2033,” Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told this in the Jatiya Sangsad under the rule 300 of the rules of procedure here today.

Quoting a recent UK-based organization Center for Economics and Business Research led by the World Bank, the minister said “Bangladesh will be the 24th economic power by 2033 from its present 41st position, adding that the size of country’s economic growth at that time will be US$ 1 trillion.”

Besides, as per the information provided by the European economic think tank Spectators, the minister said Bangladesh has scored the highest position in GDP growth in the last 10 years since 2009 among 46 best economically performed countries, in the world in the last 10 years since 2009.

During the period, Bangladesh achieved 188 per cent growth in terms of economy while China scored 177 per cent, India 117 per cent, Brazil 97 per cent and Indonesia 90 per cent, he added.

Even the per capita income of Bangladesh will be higher than India by 2030, Kamal told the House quoting a research compiled by Devid Man, a renowned economist of the Standard Chartered Bank. The per capita GDP will be US$ 5,700 while it will be US$ 5,400 by 2030,he added.
