Govt yet to fix toll for Padma Bridge: Quader

DHAKA, Sept 11, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul
Quader today said the government did not take any decision about the toll for
using the Padma Bridge.

“Construction work of the Padma Bridge is progressing. But, how can I
speak about toll for using the bridge as the toll is yet to be decided,” he
said at a press conference at his ministry office here.

All passenger-carrying vehicles have to pay toll, said Quader also Awami
League General Secretary, adding fixing of toll for using different highways
will be brought under a rule.

The Road Transport and Bridge Ministry is working in this regard, the
minister said, adding “We are thinking about imposing toll on using the
national highways with four, six and eight lanes or on the newly built
highways”.

Replying to a question about Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Quader said
after scrutiny Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself picked the current
president and secretary of BCL.

“I just declared the names of the presidents and secretaries of BCL central
committee, university committee and Dhaka City North and South committee. But
Prime Minister herself picked them,” he added.

Any amendment or change to BCL will be handled by the Prime Minister
herself, AL general secretary said.

Asked about advance council of BCL, the minister said, “I yet to get any
information about advance council of BCL. It’s an internal matter of the
party. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself is looking into the matter. She
asked four party leaders to look into the BCL’s matter.”
