Nabi opens up on WC failure, blames Afghan board

CHATTOGRAM, September 9, 2019 (BSS)-When everyone pins high hopes on
Afghanistan to do well in the ICC Cricket World Cup in England, Afghanistan
put up a disappointing performance to loss all the matches.

Mohammad Nabi said their World Cup failure should be attributed to the
board as they changed the captain just before the cricket’s carnival, much to
the disappointment of the players.

Gulbadin Naib was appointed captain, replacing Asghar Afghan which spilt
the team. After the World Cup, Naib complained that he didn’t get support
from the senior players which was the reason behind their extreme failure.

Nabi revealed that the players could not accept the change.

“Before the World Cup we changed the old captain and this is the main
thing why we can’t play well as a team,” he revealed.

“That captain never captains in his life. That’s why we didn’t do that
well in the World Cup though we had good games against India, Pakistan and
West Indies though we lost these matches. But now it’s totally changed
everything. We have given chances to our young players. There are many young
players for T20s and in the Test we debut three young players. This is the
main thing we are focusing and we put a young captain. He is a number one
bowler in the world as well.”

“It’s all about team combination. Before the World Cup, the board
members changed the old captain and the combination didn’t work in the World
Cup. Here with Rashid Khan is captain, he has the ability to lead the team.
Beside me and Asghar supported him a lot,” Nabi said.
