Nine candidates submit nominations for Rangpur 3 by-poll

RANGPUR, Sept 09, 2019 (BSS) – Nine aspirant candidates finally
submitted their nomination papers by the last date today for contesting in
the Rangpur-3 parliamentary constituency by-poll scheduled to be held on for
October 5 next.

Rangpur Regional Election Office of the Election Commission, also the
Returning Officer’s Office for by-poll in Rangpur-3 seat, wore a festive look
when the aspirant candidates of major political parties went there today to
submit their nomination papers.

“A total of nine intending candidates today submitted nomination papers
to vie in the Rangpur-3 by-poll,” Rangpur Regional Election Officer and
Returning Officer for by polls in Rangpur-3 constituency GM Sahatab Uddin
told BSS tonight.

Earlier, the Rangpur-3 parliamentary constituency fell vacant following
the death of Leader of the Opposition and Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman
Hussein Muhammad Ershad on July 14 last.

The candidates who submitted their nomination papers are Awami League
(AL) nominated candidate Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu, JaPa nominated candidate
Rahgir Al Mahi alias Saad Ershad, BNP-nominated candidate Rita Rahman, BNP
leader and independent candidate Kawser Zaman Babla, independent candidate
Hossain Mokbul Shahriar Asif, National People Party leader Shafiul Alam,
Tauhidur Rahman Mandal Raju of Khelafat Majlish, Muhammad Shahidullah of Gano
Front and Ekramul Haque of Bangladesh Congress.

“Earlier, a total of 12 aspirant candidates collected their nomination
papers to vie in the upcoming Rangpur-3 by-poll,” the Returning Officer said.

However, three of them, including AL leader Abdul Mazid, JaPa leaders SM
Fakhr-uz-Zaman Jahangir and SM Yasser did not submit their nominations papers
by the last date today.

The Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule for the by-poll in
the Rangpur parliamentary constituency on September 1 last.

“As per the announced schedule, the deadline for submission of
nomination papers was September 9, submitted nomination papers will be
scrutinised on September 11 and last date for withdrawal of candidature is
September 16 next,” Sahatab added.

He said voting of the by-election will be held on October 5 using the
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at all polling booths of the constituency.
