Transplantation of Aman seedling continues in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 25, 2017 (BSS) – Transplantation of Transplanted Aman (T- Aman) rice seedling continues in full swing in Rangpur agriculture region where farmers have already completed transplantation process on 28.46 percent of the targeted land this season.

The farmers have already transplanted T-Aman rice seedling on 1.49 lakh hectares of land against the fixed target of bringing 5.26 lakh hectares of land under T-Aman cultivation in the region.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said, farmers have grown T-Aman seedlings on 34,612 hectares of land against the target to cultivate T-Aman rice on 5.26 lakh hectares of land.

“The farmers have develop T-Aman seedlings on additional 8,054 hectares of land than the targeted land area to meet any emergency need for re- transplantation if flood damages transplanted plants this season,” said Deputy Director of the DAE SM Ashraf Ali.

Under the programme, 29,698 hectares of land would be brought under cultivation of hybrid variety T-Aman to produce 1.03 lakh tonnes of rice, 4.64 lakh hectares under high yielding variety to produce 13.01 lakh tonnes of rice and 31,874 hectares under local variety to produce 53,547 tonnes of rice this season.

“The small T-Aman rice plants, already transplanted on lands, are growing fast due to frequent rainfalls,” Horticulture Specialist of the DAE Khondker Md Mesbahul Islam said.

He said the weather is very much favourable now for T-Aman cultivation following frequent rains everywhere in Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Nilphamari districts.

Farmers said they are not facing any problem in transplanting T-Aman rice seedling because of frequent rainfalls.

Regional Additional Director of DAE Md Shah Alam predicted the bumper yield of T-Aman rice due to favourable weather this season.

“T-Aman rice seedling transplantation has been continuing smoothly and the government has taken adequate steps to assist the farmers in making the T- Aman rice farming programme successful,” he added.
