Service delivery to eradicate maternal, infant mortality stressed

 RAJSHAHI, May 21, 2018 (BSS)- Proper service delivery along with ensuring treatment and nursing supports can be the vital means of eradicate maternal and infant mortality.

Utmost importance should be given on ensuring institutional support to all pregnant mothers. Collective efforts of all government and non- government entities concerned are also indispensible to this end.

The observations came at a daylong divisional workshop titled “Strengthening Field Level Family Planning and Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health and Nutrition Services” at a city restaurant yesterday. Directorate of Family Planning (DFP) hosted the workshop in association with its operational plan of Information, Education and Communication.

Addressing as chief guest Additional secretary to Health and Family Welfare Ministry Smrity Rani Ghorami said concerted efforts of all entities concerned is very important at the field level activities of family planning and maternal and infant health.

She mentioned community support is also vital towards reaching the services of family planning, maternal-infant health to the target group of people especially in the remote areas.

There is an urgent need of bringing all the fertile couples and others concerned under the services. So, all quarters including public representatives, members of the civil society and media both print and electronics should come forward and work together.

Smrity Rani, however, mentioned that women are having fewer children and these children are increasingly likely to live longer and healthier lives than previous generations. They are also receiving more skilled assistance during pregnancy and delivery than ever before.

Further improvements would need effective public-private and NGO partnerships to improve access to and quality of services.

Chaired by Divisional Director of DFP Moloy Kumar Roy the meeting was addressed, among others, by Director of DFP Solaiman Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader, Deputy Director of DFP Dr Nasim Akhter and Assistant Director Tasiqul Haque.

Taking part in the open discussion, field level DFP officials, members of the civil society, journalists and public representatives put forward a set of recommendations.
