DHAKA, Aug 24, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the government is going to take tough actions against all kinds of corruption and irregularities in the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) aiming to make the institution profitable.

“I am going to be tough regarding BRTC. Corruption and irregularities will not be tolerated in the institution. The new vehicles have strengthened the BRTC fleet. If you cooperate, it is possible to make the BRTC a profitable instituion,” he said.

Quader, also Awami League general secretary, came up with the remarks while addressing a Mourning Day discussion organized by the BRTC Sramik League (CBA) at Institution of Diploma Engineers (IDE) in the city’s Kakrail area.

The minister said BRTC would not be able to make any profit if it cannot be freed from corruption. “But we have to make it profitable as we are committed to materialize Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s dream of making the institute a profitable concern,” he added.

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian addressed the discussion as the special guest with BRTC Sramik League acting President Abdul Quader in the chair.

Speaking about dengue prevalence, Quader said the efforts are being continued to control the dengue.

There is no scope of showing negligence in this regard as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is monitoring the issue, he said, adding, “We are not only observing the Month of Mourning, but also working to control dengue prevalence”.

BRTC Chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan, Jatiya Sramik League President Shukkur Mahmud, acting General Secretary Humayun Kabir and Finance Secretary Sultan Ahmad also spoke in the discussion, among others.
