DHAKA, Aug 24, 2019 (BSS)- Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said patrons of militants and killers must be ousted from politics to make the country’s political system clean from fair.

“Politicians nurturing the militants and giving shelter to the killers” are responsible for spoiling the politics, he said at a discussion here today.

Bangladesh Chalachhitra League, Film Producer and Distributor Association of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Film Directors Association (BFDA) jointly organized the discussion marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) auditorium in city’s Tejgaon here.

Terming BNP a political platform of killers, Dr Hasan said, such politics is not possible in any country except Bangladesh. Politicians with such criminal records must have to face trial and would have to leave politics forever in any other country, he said.

The minister said BNP’s founder Ziaur Rahman usurp to power through killing, and his killing spree continued even after coming to power and hundreds of army officers became victims of his atrocity.

Dr Hasan said like Ziaur Rahman, his wife Khaleda Zia also established the rule to terror through indiscriminate killing of opposition leaders and workers.

The information minister said Ziaur Rahman as the then deputy chief of Bangladesh Army was actively involved in Bangabandhu assassination.

“When Zia came to know about the plot of Bangabandhu’s killing, it was his utmost responsibility to inform it to the higher authorities. But Zia didn’t do it, Dr Hasan said.

The minister said Ziaur Rahman rewarded the killers of Bangabandhu by giving overseas job and her wife Khaleda Zia made the killers parliament members and ministers, giving the national flag in their vehicles.

The information minister said, Khaleda Zia was well informed about the gruesome 21st August grenade attack and her son Tarique Zia was actively involved with the heinous crime.

The attitude of the Khaleda Zia’s government following the grenade attack was a clear manifestation of her government’s role in the attack, the minister said.

Police helped the attackers to escape safely and all medical services of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) were closed down when the injured people were arriving for treatment, he said.

All pharmacies on the BSMMU premises were closed and pro-BNP doctors of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital remained absent from their duties on that day, he added.
