DHAKA, August 21, 2019 (BSS)-Indian External Affairs Minister Dr
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar today left here for Kathmandu this morning wrapping
up his three-day official visit.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and Indian High
Commissioner in Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das saw him off at Hazrat Shahjalal
International Airport this morning, said a foreign ministry official.
The Indian foreign minister expressed hope for taking Bangladesh-India
relationship to a new height when he arrived here on August 19.
S Jaishankar met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence
Ganabhaban on Tuesday.
He visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32 and paid tribute to
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at
his portrait there.
S Jaishankar had a productive meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Dr.
A K Abdul Momen at the State Guest House Jamuna.
During the meeting, both the ministers expressed satisfaction at the
excellent state of bilateral relations existing between the two neighbouring
nations. They discussed the entire gamut of bilateral issues of mutual
interest.
Momen and S Jaishankar reviewed ongoing cooperation, including the
implementation of decisions taken during the last meeting of the Joint
Consultative Commission (JCC) in February this year in New Delhi.
Both the minister expressed satisfaction that both countries are working
closer than ever before in every sector, from security and border management,
including reducing untoward border incidents, mutually-beneficial trade and
investment, power and energy, river water sharing, including that of the
Teesta, development partnership, transport connectivity, culture and consular
issues.
They reviewed progress of the projects under the Indian Lines of Credit.
The two ministers also discussed the preparatory measures in relation to
the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India in October next when a
number of MoUs are expected to be signed.
The Indian foreign minister expressed appreciation for the humanitarian
gesture of Bangladesh in supporting a large number of displaced persons from
the Rakhine region of Myanmar and assured of India’s continued support for
safe, speedy and sustainable return of the Rohingyas to Myanmar.
