PABNA, May 17, 2018 (BSS) – Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif today warned that any corruption or dishonesty in rice procurement would not be tolerated in the current ‘Boro’ season.

The government has announced a zero tolerance policy against corruption, he said, adding that legal actions would be taken against corrupt people, according to a press release.

The minister was addressing the Boro rice procurement-2018 at LSD warehouse at Atgharia Upazila in the district this afternoon.

Sherif also inaugurated the boro rice procurement at LSD warehouses in Ishwardi and Muladuli Upazilas.

He said the government has been procuring boro rice to ensure food security across the country.

The minister asked all concerned to remain alert in keeping sufficient stock and availability of supply. The procurement would play an important role to meet any possible challenge of disaster and deficit, he said.

Sherif said the government is purchasing boro rice at a cost of Taka 38 per kilogram from mill owners.

The government is preserving the rice for the sake of people’s interest to ensure food security, he added.

Atgharia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Akram Ali and Atgharia LSD Officer Masud Rana, were present on the occasion, among others.
