President, PM greet countrymen on eve of Ramadan

DHAKA, May 17, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted the countrymen and all Muslims across the world on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

In separate messages on the eve of the fasting month, they prayed for the welfare of the country and the Muslim Ummah.

President Abdul Hamid, in his message, said the holy month of Ramadan is the month of self-restraint, self-rectification and obtaining forgiveness.

It brings a unique opportunity of getting closer to Allah and attaining peace and forgiveness, he added.

“As Ramadan is the month of Rahmat (mercy), Barkat (blessing), Maghfirat (forgiveness) and Najat (salvation), it brings a unique opportunity of getting closer to Allah, attaining peace and forbearance,” the President added.

Noting that the whole Muslim Ummah across the world observes the month with due religious fervour, Abdul Hamid said fasting helps establish cooperation, amity and brotherhood between the rich and the poor.

The President hoped that the people would be able to realize the significance of the holy Ramadan and the society would get rid of all sorts of darkness and superstition.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Ramadan is the month of self-restraint, compassion and forgiveness.

This month is for purification of souls through sacrifices and it creates the scopes for getting closer to Allah, she added.

She called upon all to be inspired with the teachings of the holy month of Ramadan and establish peace, amity and fraternity in personal and social lives, shunning luxury, malice, violence and conflicts.

“Let us help each other to establish peace by shunning all ills,” she said and called for maintaining sanctity of the Ramadan by exhibiting the sense of proportion, patience and restraint in all spheres.
