Eight get life-term for killing woman

CHITTAGONG, July 24, 2017 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced eight persons to life-term imprisonment for killing a woman at Mirsarai upazila of the district 15 years back.

The court of Chittagong Additional District and Sessions Judge-5 Nur-E-Alam pronounced the verdict against Sobhan, Mosharraf, Selim, Nur Hossain, Abu Taher, Rafique Master, Jafar and Abdul Jabbar.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer more one year imprisonment.

The court, however, acquitted two others as the prosecution failed to prove their guilt.

The prosecution story is, in brief, that Morjina Begum received burn injuries after the convicts set fire to the house of late Ali Akbar over land dispute at the night on July 6, 2002.

Later, she succumbed to her injuries the following day.

Victim’s mother Nur Jahan Begum filed a murder case with Mirsarai police station against 10 people on July 8.

Police submitted charge sheet accusing 10 people on June 7, 2003.

However, all the convicts remain absconding after getting bail.
