Talukder Khaleque wins KCC mayoral polls

 KHULNA, May 16, 2018 (BSS)-The Awami League mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque won the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election defeating his rival BNP nominee Nazrul Islam Monju.

Assistant Returning Officer Habibur Rahman told BSS that Khulna Returning Officer Md. Younus Ali announced the unofficial result around 3.00am today.

According to the unofficial result of 286 polling centres out of the total 289, Talukder Abdul Khaleque got 1, 74,851 votes, while Manju bagged 1, 09,251 votes.

The Islami Andolon mayoral candidate got 14,362 votes, Jatiya Party (Ershad) backed mayoral aspirant Shafiqur Rahman bagged 1,072 while CPB candidate Mizanur Rahman got 534 votes, he said.

Earlier, polling in three centres were stopped due to irregularities.

Of the 31 general councilor posts, Awami League backed candidates won 14, BNP backed candidates bagged 8 and independent candidates 9.
