Nuruzzaman pays homage to Bangabandhu in Tungipara

DHAKA, Aug 17, 2019 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed today paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his mazar in Tungipara of Gopalganj district marking the National Mourning Day and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation.

The minister also joined a munajat at the mazar and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, his family members and other martyrs of August 15, 1975 massacre.

After paying tribute, the minister told journalists that the incumbent government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is working to improve living standard of the poor, helpless and distressed people.

About the social safety net programme, he said a total of 17 lakh widows will enjoy widow-allowance in the current financial year under this programme.

The number of allowances for elderly people will be increased from 40 lakh to 44 lakh and disability allowance to cent percent under the purview of the safety net programme, Nuruzzaman said.

Referring to the month-long programmes taken by the concerned ministry marking the National Mourning Day, the minister said the ‘Akheri Munajat’ seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Bangabandhu will be held on August 31.

Department of Social Services Director General Gazi Mohammad Nurul Kabir, Deputy Commissioner Sayeda Sultana and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Saidur Rahman Khan accompanied the minister.
