DHAKA, Aug 17, 2019 (BSS) – The National Mourning Day and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in the Bangladesh missions abroad in befitting manners with due solemnity.
Bangladeshi Embassies in Hague, Washington D.C., Tashkent, Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York, Bangladesh High Commissions in London, Singapore and Canberra and Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata chalked out elaborate programmes on the day.
Permanent mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York also arranged special programmes aiming to pay glowing tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The programmes included wearing of black badges by the members of staff of the mission, hoisting of the national flag at half-mast, reading out the messages of the President, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister, placing wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu, standing one minute silence to pay homage to Bangabandhu, holding discussion, screening of documentary on Bangabandhu, blood donation, charity programmes, offering special prayers, milad-mahfil and doa-munajat.
The National Mourning Day was observed in Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of his 44th martyrdom anniversary.
The Mourning Day’s programmes included hoisting national flag at half-mast, doa mahfil, reading out of messages, discussion, and screening of a documentary on life and work of Bangabandhu.
Bangladesh Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations Masud Bin Momen, family members of martyred freedom fighters and president of the USA unit of Awami League Dr Siddiqur Rahman addressed the function on the day.
The High Commission of Bangladesh in Singapore observed the 44th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day with due solemnity.
Members of the expatriate Bangladeshi community in Singapore and officials of the High Commission participated in the day-long program.
In the morning, the national flag was hoisted at half-mast.
The programme was followed by placing a floral wreath before the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by the High Commissioner along with community members as a token of reverence.
A one-minute silence was observed in memory of the departed souls while special prayer was offered seeking salvation of the departed souls.
To mark the day, Bangladeshi Embassies in Hague, Washington D.C. and Tashkent also organised similar programmes on the life of Bangabandhu at their respective building where the ambassador and leading members of the Bangladesh Community and Embassy officials took part.
In Hague, the National Mourning Day was observed paying homage and tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and members of his family who attained martyrdom on the fateful day of 15 August 1975.
Embassy officials along with members of the family, former Deputy Mayor of The Hague along with wife, leaders of the Netherlands Awami-League, expatriate Bangladesh community and Bangladeshi students studying in different Dutch universities attended the programme.
During the programme, the speakers resolved to make Bangabandhu’s dream of “Sonar Bangla” a mission of their own.
Besides, Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC offered a special prayer during Jumma prayers at the Islamic Center of Washington on Friday last seeking diving blessings for peace of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, members of his family and others who embraced martyrdom on August 15 in 1975.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin, officers and employees of the embassy were present on the occasion.
