Begum Rokeya University observes National Mourning Day

RANGPUR, Aug 15, 2019 (BSS) – The authorities of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) observed the National Mourning Day- 2019 and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman paying rich tribute to him.

The observance began with placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu
on Central Cafeteria premises in the campus. Besides, the national flags were hoisted at half mast and black badges were worn by teachers, students and university staffs.

Deans of different faculties and Heads of different departments, Provosts
of Residential Halls, Leaders of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’
Association (BRUTA), other organisations of the teachers, officials and
employees placed their respective wreaths.

Later, a one-minute silence was observed in front of the portrait of
Bangabandhu. A large mourning procession was also brought out on the campus
streets with participation of Deans of different faculties, heads of
different departments, leaders of BRUTA, teachers, students, officials and
employees of the university.

A doa mahfil followed by special munajats were offered at the university
Central Mosque after Zohr prayers seeking divine blessings for the departed
souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.

Later, Vice-chancellor of BRUR Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah
presided over a discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu at the
Central Cafeteria of the university.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts of BRUR Professor Dr. Parimal Chandra Barman,
Provost of Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Hall Professor Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina,
Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell of the university Professor
Dr. Md. Nazmul Haque, Associate Professor Rafiul Azam Khan, among others,
addressed.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Kalimullah called upon students to
follow the ideals of Bangabandhu for serving the nation with patriotism. He
said, “By following Bangabandhu’s ideals a secular ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt
by Father of the Nation could be built.”
