DMP working for better traffic management during Ramadan

 DHAKA, May 15, 2018 (BSS) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been working for freeing the city roads from any sorts of traffic congestion during the holy month of Ramadan as the people can reach their destinations well before the Iftar.

“We have already asked the authorities concerned to take appropriate measures for better traffic management ahead the holy month of Ramadan as the city dwellers can reach their destinations before the Iftar,” said DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia.

The DMP has already issued a set of directives for ensuring better intersections management, parking vehicles at the fixed places, stop parking in front of shopping malls and its adjoining areas, freeing footpaths from hawkers, not allowing to ply vehicles or motorcycles on footpaths, he also said.

High officials of the DMP have also been asked to stay on the roads for ensuring better traffic management to ease congestion during pick hours, he added.

The DMP has also asked the authorities concerned not to allow rickshaw and rickshaw vans on the important roads, stop plying of unfit vehicles particularly buses, to keep free the entry and exit points of different terminals from traffic jams.

It has also decided to conduct drives of mobile courts under for creating obstruction of traffic movements with putting construction materials on the roads.

The DMP commissioner has also requested two Dhaka city corporations, WASA and other service providing organizations not to dig any road afresh and take prompt action to repair the already cut roads to ease the traffic congestion. It has also decided to conduct mobile courts against adulteration of food items during the holy month of Ramadan.

With a view to ensuring security to city dwellers, The DMP has decided to deploy special police teams at different parts of the capital city including at the bus, launch and railway stations and shopping malls to check snatching, extortion and preventing the dope gang, the DMP chief also said.

The shopping mall owners’ associations have been asked to install CCTVS, archways, and access control machines to ensure security of their markets.

It has also decided to give escort service in case of carrying huge amount of money.

The decisions have been taken in a meeting on security and traffic management today with representatives from different private and public service producing organizations, shop owners association, bus owners association, launch owners association, BGMEA, BKMEA, two Dhaka city corporations and different financial institutions. High officials of police were present on the occasion.
