Help flourish inner potentials of children: President

 DHAKA, May 15, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today urged all including senior citizens, family, society and state to play their responsible role to ensure rights of the children and help flourish their inner potentials in a friendly environment.

“Build awareness on social and religious values simultaneously their (children) academic curriculum so that they remain free from superstitions and religious fanaticism,” he told the “Jatiya Shishu Puroshkar Protijogita (National Children Award Competition) 2018” at Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium here.

President Hamid also put emphasis on creating patriotism, moral values, morality and sincerity in children and inspiring them to study more books, knowing about science, technology, arts, literature-culture and other extra- curriculum activities.

Referring to the various competitions at the very beginning of student life, the President called upon the guardians not to put pressure on the children for study or any other issue and let them flourish by creating conducive friendly environment.

“This ominous and unequal competition hinders the normal growth of the children, “he observed.

Noting that the physically challenged children are a part and parcel of society, the President said, “Never consider them as the burden and help them return to the main stream of the society. . . Let them flourish their mental growth in all aspects”.

He also asked all concerned to develop friendship with them (physically challenged) and make them worthy human resources as children’s sound flourishment would help to cope with the competitive world.

The President also mentioned different development activities of the present government in line with the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who enacted the National Children Act -1974 as part of ensuring the fundamental rights of the children.

“Father of the Nation loved the children very much. He wanted to materialize the dream of building a Sonar Bangla with them,” he added.

The President later distributed prizes and medals among the winners of different disciplines here. Bangladesh Shishu Academy conducted the national-level competitions where children in 28 disciplines including sports, creative dance, songs, acting, clay art, Haamd, Naat, poetry recitation, Qirat, Chhara Gaan, storytelling, painting and dances were given awards.

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, MP, secretary of the ministry Nasima Begum, chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Academy and novelist Selina Hossain and Director Anjir Liton, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif MP, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Affairs Rebecca Momin MP and secretaries concerned to the president were present on the occasion.

President Hamid also enjoyed a cultural function of the children there.
