Khulna cattle markets humming with customers

KHULNA, August 10, 2019 (BSS) – Cattle markets in allover Khulna are now humming with customers as people from both the city and adjacent areas are rushing there to purchase their sacrificial animals with only a few hours left for Eid-ul-Azha.

Along with the customers, cattle traders from Jessore, Narail, and other areas are also coming to the markets with their finest sacrificial animals expecting better profit.

According to the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), about one and half lakhs sacrificial animals have already been stocked in the cattle markets whereas this year’s demand is 1.25 lakh. So, price of cattle-heads is cheap enough from yesterday.

After visiting few markets in the district and city it was found that the price of sacrificial animals is ranging from Taka 50,000 to Taka eleven lakh.

Customers also expressed their satisfaction over the quality and price while purchasing their sacrificial animals. Market operators said besides the local buyers, the wholesale cattle traders continued to send livestock at the markets in the city and nine upazilas of the district from different parts of the country.

Talking to BSS, Bazar Super of KCC Selimur Rahman said KCC earned Tk 1.74 crore as duty last year from selling over 10,000 cattle heads at KCC’s Zoragate makeshift cattle market. This year KCC is expecting over Taka 2 crore from cattle head selling.

According to Khulna district livestock office, more than 1.12 lakh sacrificial animals were sold last year in Khulna division on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. He hoped selling over 1.20 lakh animal this year.

Markets operators installed adequate currency screening machines in all the cattle markets while police said steps were taken to ensure required security in the market places.
