FF Gulzer Hussain of Netrakona dies

Netrakona Aug 10, 2019 (BSS) – Advocate Gulzer Hussain, a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and an organizer of the Liberation War, died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital in Dhaka today.

Family sources said, Gulzer, 74, left behind his son and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Gulzer Hussain was appointed as general secretary of BAKSAL, Netrakona district unit by Bangabandhu in 1975.

After the assassination of Bangabandhu, he raised strong resistance against the then military rulers who issued warrant of arrest against him.

The military government led by president general Ziaur Rahman also issued an order to shot him at sight. He was also the acting general secretary of Awami League Netrakona district unit during the period between 1979 and 1983.

Gulzer was undergoing treatment at BSMMUH since March 21. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sanctioned Taka 22 lakhs for his treatment.

Gulzar Hossain will be given state of honor at Netrakona Mutizodha Sangsad complex this afternoon. Later, he will be buried at Netrakona pourasava graveyard.
