Govt. for global recognition of 1971 genocide: AKM Mozammel Huq

DHAKA, July 24, 2017 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huque today said the government is moving for achieving global recognition of the genocide took place during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

“Jatiya Sangsad (JS) has already adopted a resolution to observe March 25 as the ‘National Gonohotya Dibos or Genocide Day and the day was observed across the country this year for the first time,” the minister said addressing a function on ‘Bangladesh Liberation Festival’ at Toronto city in Canada on Sunday.

Treasure 1971 organized the festival, said an official release here today.

The government has been working relentlessly for getting international recognition of the 1971 genocide and United Nations (UN) recognition for the March 25 as Genocide Day, the minister said, seeking cooperation of expatriate Bangladeshi’s to this end.

Recalling the contributions of the expatriate Bangladeshis and foreign friends in mobilizing international support for Bangladesh’s Liberation War, Mozammel said the government has already given awards to 340 foreign friends for their outstanding contributions to the country’s Liberation War.

He also said more foreign friends will be given awards in this regard.

The minister said our efforts would be continued to inform of the expatriate Bangladeshi new generation the true history of liberation war and sacrifice of forefathers.

He also said the country is moving towards prosperous with remittances of expatriates and urged them to continue their efforts in transforming Bangladesh into Bangabandhu’s dreamt ‘Sonar Bangla’.

Presided over by Treasure 1971 Chairman Fazlul Kabir, freedom fighter Golam Mahibur Rahman, researcher Dr Mozammel Haque, Tazul Mohammad, former Member of Parliament Dr Murad Hasan and coordinator of Treasure 1971 Uzzal Das addressed the function, among others.
