DHAKA, August 7, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh, for the first time, is going to participate at the ‘WorldSkills Competition 2019’, scheduled to be held during August 22-27, at the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre at Kazan in Russia.
The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has completed all necessary preparations in this regard.
The information was revealed today at a press conference at the NSDA Conference room in the city.
Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Sajjadul Hassan attended the press conference as the chief guest while Executive Chairman of NSDA Md Faruque Hossain delivered the keynote speech.
Sajjadul Hassan said like many other countries, Bangladesh is also going to participate in the’ WorldSkills Competition’ for developing the skills of the country’s youth and harnessing their collective talent.
“There is no alternate to transforming country’s large workforce into skilled manpower in order to enhancing job scopes for them as well as enabling for self-employment,” he added.
Referring to the slogan of the government’s political manifesto – ‘Power of Youths; Bangladesh’s Growth’, Sajjadul Hassan said, the government pledged for transforming youths into skilled manpower and creation of jobs for them.
“In order to coordinate the country’s efforts in building the large youth population of the country into skilled manpower and ensuring the standard of the skills provided to them, the government has formed the (NSDA) under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO),” he added.
Through participating at the WorldSkills Competition in Kazan, he said, the Bangladeshi youths would be able to significantly focus the standards of their skills in the international arena.
Faruque Hossain informed that two contestants from Bangladesh – Tanjim Tabassum Islam will contest the global skills competition from confectionery and patisserie trade while Nafisa Sadaf Achol from fashion designing.
They were selected through the nation-wide ‘Rising Star Competition’ last year, he added.
He said the two contestants would be able to perform their best at Kazan competition and necessary supports are being provided to them.
Expressing gratitude to the concerned for their cooperation in preparing the competitors, Faruque Hossain said, Hotel Radisson, InterContinental Dhaka and Coopers are providing supports for grooming the contestants in ‘Confectionery and Patisserie’, while Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for fashion designing.
“Concerned Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) are providing all-out supports,” he added.
He informed that Bangladesh, as the 79th member of the WorldSkills International, is going to participate at the global level competition which is a matter of pride for the nation.
“Through participating at the WorldSkills Competition-2019, Bangladesh would successfully be able to make exposure of its capability of generating highly-skilled international-standard manpower in various trades,” he added.
Faruque said this would help boost exports of skilled Bangladeshi manpower in different countries.
NSDA members, senior officials, representatives from different ISCs, contestants, technical experts were present at the press briefing.
