Hectic campaign goes on for KCC election

 KHULNA, May 13, 2018 (BSS) – The contesting candidates to the election of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) fully geared up their campaign tremendously with the hope of getting maximum support from people in the last day of campaigning today.

All the contenders, including the mayoral ones, are seen moving door to door from early morning to midnight. There are no places where they are not visiting.

The city election is scheduled to be held on May 15 next.

AL backed mayoral candidate Talukdar Abdul Khaleque along with ex-RCC Mayor and president of Rajshahi city unit AL AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, vice-president Nowsher Ali, Rajshahi AL leader advocate Aslam Sarkar, Robiul Alam and central AL leader Kamal Hossain, among others, sought votes in different parts of the city.

Likewise, BNP leaders Shahruzzaman Murtoza, Sekendar Ali Dalim, Shafiqul Alam Mona and Principal Tariqul Islam, among others, moved from door to door seeking votes for their candidate Nazrul Islam Manju for the mayoral post of KCC.

Besides, Jatiya Party (Ershad) joint secretary general Shafiqul Islam Modhu took part in electioneering for JP backed mayoral candidate Shafiqur Rahman Mushfiq at different localities in the city.

Other two candidates Mowlana Muzammel Haque (Handfan) and Mizanur Rahman Babu are also conducting campaign in the city’s different areas.

Today, Liton and Kamal approached the voters at Daulatpur baby stand area, West Zone Power Company Ltd Office, KDA Office, Krishi Bank, Shilpo Bank and other localities to give their mandate in favour of Khaleque.

Khaleque also joined different streets meetings. Bangladesh Jute Association (BJA) president Sheikh Sayed Ali, Sadar Thana AL president advocates Saiful Islam, among others, spoke.

At the same time, BNP leaders campaigned among the voters for Nazrul Islam Manju at city’s Chanmari, Bandabazar, Labanchara and other areas. BNP leaders of Khulna district unit and Bagerhat and Satkhira district units were present.

Manju at a press conference at his city’s Miapara residence this morning said he would sweep the election by a wide margin of votes if it is held in a free and fair manner.

Brushing the BNP leader’s allegation aside, AL leader Kamal Hossain at a press conference at the AL office said it has become a habit of BNP to bring allegation of rigging in elections.

He said a number of polls to the local government bodies and by-elections were held in free, fair and neutral manner during the tenure of the present government.

Meanwhile, a total of 16 platoons BGB comprising 640 members have been deployed in the city today.
