Tipu Munshi opens new textile mills in Uttara EPZ

NILPHAMARI, Aug 4, 2019 (BSS)- Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said the present government has attached importance to the development of country’s northern region and Uttara EPZ has been establish to materialize the vision.

Uttara EPZ would infuse dynamism in country’s trade and commerce bringing immense economic benefit to country’s northern region, he said while inaugurating Deshbondhu Textile Mills at Uttara EPZ here today.

The minister said more industries would be set up in the northern region as natural gas is being supplied for industrial purposes.

Tipu Munshi said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the project of Uttara EPZ despite many barriers with an aim to change the economic condition of the people of the region.

“Her epoch making decision is contributing to make the monga-wreaked northern region into a industrial one,” the minister said adding that the economy of region would be more advanced if the Banglabandh and Burimari land ports can be made operational side by side with Chilahati Land Port.

The commerce minister said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had embarked upon a dream to build a prosperous Bangladesh. But he was barred from implementing his dream.

The minister urged everybody to work together to make the grief of the month of August into strength to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu.

Chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) Major General SM Salauddin Islam, Commissioner of Rangpur Tax Zone Ahsanul Haque and senior government officials spoke on the occasion.

Chairman of Deshbondhu Group Golam Mostafa said the hundred percent export oriented completely green mills in private sector would produce 174.72 million pieces of denim, chino and cargo pants, outwear and fancy apparels every year.
