Preparations afoot to observe Mourning Day in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 4, 2019 (BSS) – The authorities and organisations concerned
are taking necessary preparations to observe the National Mourning Day-2019
and 44th martyrdom anniversary of the Architect of Independence and Father of
the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here on August 15 next.

The district administration, Awami League (AL), its associate bodies,
different government departments, educational institutions and sociocultural
and professional organisations have chalked out elaborate programs to observe
the day.

Officials in the district administration said the observance will begin
with hoisting of the national flag at half-mast in all government, semi-
government, autonomous, private buildings and educational institutions after
sunrise.

Wearing black badges, the divisional and district level government
officials, political leaders, head of different organisations, institutions
and departments and common people will place wreaths at the Mural of Father
of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the morning.

A one-minute silence will be observed in front of the Mural of
Bangabandhu on the Bangabandhu Square premises and special munajats be
offered there before bringing out a mourning procession with participation of
officials and thousands of people.

Milad mahfils will be organised and special munajats be offered at all
mosques, mandirs, churches, pagodas and educational institutions seeking
divine blessings for the departed soul of Bangabandhu and his other family
members, who were assassinated by a group of disgruntled army personnel on
August 15, 1975.

The District Information Office will screen documentary films on
Bangabandhu, his historic March 7 speech and struggles for Independence and
feature films on the war of Liberation at the cinema halls and open places.

Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and local
newspapers publish special supplements on Bangabandhu on the day.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy will organise competitions on drawing and
essay writing for children focusing life, deeds and sacrifice of Bangabandhu
and true national history.

The Islamic Foundation will organise programmes including recitation
from the Holy Qur’an, Hamd, Naat and Doa mahfil and a special discussion on
the life and deeds of Bangabandhu at its auditorium.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam is expected to attend the main
discussion to be arranged by the district administration at Town hall
auditorium as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan in the
chair.

High officials of Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police, Rangpur
Metropolitan Police, leaders of district and city units of AL and its
associate bodies, academics, researchers and civil society members will
address the main discussion.

The district, city and upazila units of AL and its associate bodies,
district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Joybangla Sangskritik Oikko
Jyote and other organisations have chalked out similar programmes to observe
the day.

The programs of AL include hoisting of the national flag and party flags
at half-mast, wearing black badges, placing wreaths at Bangabandhu’s Mural,
mourning procession, recitation from the Holy Quran, Doa mahfil and
discussions on Bangabandhu.

The programs also include playing of the historic March 7 Speech of
Bangabandhu, spontaneous blood donation, screening of documentary films on
Bangabandhu, distribution of foods among poor and distressed people.
