Curb rumour mongers with iron hand: HT Imam

DHAKA, Aug 2, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam yesterday issued a strong warning against the rumour mongers, saying that they will be curbed with an iron hand to ensure good governance.

“Those who are spreading ill-motivated propaganda against the state and people will not be spared and they will be surely brought to justice,” he told a meeting as the chief guest at the Prime Minister’s Office here yesterday afternoon.

PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hassan presided over the coordination meeting on dengue and other contemporary issues.

Imam said the present government is giving high priority to good governance. “The main objective of good governance is a peace and prosperous society for people and nobody can subvert it,” he said.

The adviser also urged all concerned to create public opinion to dispel rumours which often lead to fatal incidents.

About the spread of dengue across the country, Imam urged all to make all out effort to contain the menace.

“We became victorious in the liberation war and we’ll surely win against the mosquitoes,” he asserted.

At the meeting, issues related to traffic management and safe road management during the upcoming Eid festival and hygienic slaughtering of sacrificial animals at specific places to ensure public health and protect environment were discussed.

It was informed at the meeting, 154 officers from the public administration ministry of the rank of deputy secretary or senior assistant secretary will be deployed at 154 wards of the two city corporations of Dhaka to coordinate and monitor the activities to check dengue.

The meeting asked authorities concerned of the two Dhaka city corporations to strengthen their anti-mosquito drive.

It also asked all government officials to clean their respective houses and offices and to prevent dengue along with motivating people to keep their residence and neighbourhood clean by removing stagnant clean water, particularly from flower tubes, air conditioner machines and refrigerators.

The meeting stressed the need for conducting campaign through television channels to make people aware about rumours and dengue menace.

Representatives from concerned ministries and city corporations also came up with their opinions and spelled out strategies to check rumours and dengue.

The meeting thanked Bangladesh Television for mobilising public opinion about rumours and dengue and urged private TV channels to play their due role in this regard.

Principal Coordinator of SDG Affairs at the PMO Md Abul Kalam Azad, Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Secretary of Public Security Division under the Home Ministry Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mian, senior secretaries and secretaries of different ministries and representatives of two city corporations and RAB spoke at the meeting, among others.
