Journalist Ataul Hakim laid to eternal rest

CHATTOGRAM, July 31, 2019 (BSS) – Elderly journalist and former President
of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) and Chattogram Union of Journalist (CUJ),
Ataul Hakim was laid to eternal rest today.

He was buried after his third namaz-e-janaza after Asr prayer at his
family graveyard at Hasmot Ali Chowdhury Bari, at Sultanpur village under
Raozan Upazila.

Earlier, his first namaz-e-janaza was held at Nimtala Jamia Mosque of
city’s No. 2 gate at 9 am today and the 2nd namaz-e-janaza at 11 am on CPC
premises.

His body was taken to CPC premises at 11 am where his colleagues placed
wreaths at his coffin and paid their last respect to him.

The elderly journalist died of various old age complications at a city
clinic at 9 pm last night.

He was 70, family sources said.

Ataul Hakim left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of
relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

The death of Ataul Hakim cast a pall of gloom in the arena of journalism,
culture and literature.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, in a condolence message expressed
profound shock at the death of Ataul Hakim.

Besides, leaders of different political parties, scores of socio cultural
organizations, including deputy Minister for Education, Barrister Mohibul
Hasan Nowfel, former Ministers Abdullah Al Noman, Amir Khasru Mahmud
Chowdhury, Fazle Karim Chowdhury, MP,leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of
Journalists (BFUJ, CPC, CUJ, Chattogram Journalists Housing Co-operatives
Society, Chattogram Television Journalists Association, Chattogram Photo
Journalist Association expressed profound shock at his death.

They conveyed sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed
for eternal peace of the departed soul.
