Govt working to reach development benefits to grassroots people: Speaker

RANGPUR, July 31, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said the present government is working relentlessly to reach
benefits of development to grassroots people in the country.

“Not a single citizen of the country will remain homeless,” she told at a function at Pirganj upazila parishad auditorium as the chief guest.

The function was organized for handing over keys of 285 houses among
beneficiary families who have lands but not houses under Asrayan-2 project.

Dr Shirin said the present government is working to implement the goal
successfully aiming at building a developed Bangladesh by 2041.

She said development activities are now visible everywhere in Pirganj
upazila as elsewhere across the country.

“The residents of Pirganj upazila have already started getting enormous
benefits of development and the trend would continue in future,” she said.

Earlier, the Speaker inaugurated the three-day ‘Fruit Tree Fair-2019’
organised by Upazila Agriculture Office on Pirganj upazila parisahd premises
as the chief guest.

On the occasion, she said the present government is encouraging plantation
of saplings of fruit, wood and medicinal bearing trees to increase food
production.

“Pirganj has an agricultural extension programme which is enriching rural
economy to boost economic growth taking Bangladesh forward,” she said, adding
that agriculture sector might be taken ahead using information and
communication technologies.

Dr. Shirin urged common people to concentrate on producing domestic fruits
to reduce dependence on imported fruits from abroad. She also participated in
a colourful rally and planted a fruit tree sapling on the upazila parishad
premises.

Later, she distributed wheelchairs, tricycles and other auxiliary
materials among disabled people, prizes among winner students of six
educational institutions in the ‘Reading of Book on the War of Liberation’
Competitions.

Dr. Shirin also unveiled the cover of Annual Diary of Pirganj upazila
parisahd and easy-term loans among eighteen members of ethnic communities
under the ‘My House, My Farm’ project at the same venue.

She distributed allowances among older citizens, divorced and repressed
women, new allowance books and allowances among physically challenged people
and cash assistance among people affected by natural disasters.

The Speaker also distributed 206 multimedia projectors among heads of
different educational institutions and eight wheel chairs for physically
handicapped students among eight government educational institutions.

The Speaker participated in a cake cutting function on the occasion of
upgrading Pirganj municipality to the second class category and observance of
the sixth establishment anniversary of the municipality.

Later, she exchanged views with local leaders and activists of Pirganj
upazila and all 15 union units of Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League
and other associate bodies.

Chairman Nur Mohammad Mondal, Acting President of upazila AL Azizur Rahman
Ranga, its General Secretary and Municipal Mayor Abu Saleh Md. Tajimul Islam
Shamim, President of district Chhatra League Mehedee Hasan Rony, Pirganj
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculture Officer Md. Sadekuzzaman Sarkar,
addressed the function.
