RANGPUR, May 9, 2018 (BSS) – The ninth death anniversary of renowned nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr MA Wazed Miah was observed in a befitting manner here today (Wednesday).
The Rangpur district and Pirganj upazila administrations, Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS), Dr Wazed Foundation, district and Pirganj upazila units of Awami League (AL) and family of Dr Wazed observed the death anniversary through daylong programmes.
The programmes included placing of wreaths on the grave of Dr Wazed in Laldighee Fatehpur village under Pirganj upazila, offering Fateha, Milad mahfil, ‘Ziyarat’ and distribution of foods to the poor and memorial discussions.
Government officials, public representatives and leaders of different organisations placed wreaths on the grave of the nuclear scientist and offered Fateha and special munajat there since the morning.
Leaders and representatives of Pirganj upazila AL, Dr Wazed Foundation, different educational institutions and family members of Dr Wazed placed wreaths there.
On behalf of Pirganj upazila AL, its Acting President Advocate Azizur Rahman Ranga with other leaders placed wreaths on Dr Wazed’s grave.
Pirganj municipality Mayor and General Secretary of Pirganj upazila AL Tazimul Islam Shamim and Acting Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nashid Kaiser Riyad placed wreaths on the grave of Dr Wazed on behalf of their respective institutions.
Led by Vice-president of DWSS Rawshan Ara Wahed and its General Secretary Saiful Islam Jahangir, leaders of the organisation placed wreaths on the grave of Dr Wazed, offered Fateha and ‘Ziyarat’ there.
Later, the organisation organised doa mahfils at Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque and Court Jam-e-Mosque in Rangpur city and offered special prayers there seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Dr Wazed and well-being of his family members.
The district administration organised a memorial discussion on the life and works of Dr Wazed at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city in this regard.
Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Education and ICT) Abu Rafa Mohammad Arif in the chair.
Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Zila Parisahd Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Dr Wazed’s boyhood friend Monwar Hossain, senior AL leaders Latifa Shawkat, Rosy Rahman, Tushar Kanti Mandal and Shah Md Nabiullah Panna addressed.
Pirganj upazila AL organised a memorial discussion on the life and works of Dr Wazed on the ‘Joy Sadan’ premises in Laldighee Fatehpur village with its Acting President Advocate Azizur Rahman Ranga in the chair.
Vice-president of district AL Chhayadat Hossain Bakul and its Adviser Professor Nurul Amin Raja addressed the discussion moderated by General Secretary of Pirganj upazila AL Tazimul Islam Shamim.
Speakers in these discussions termed Dr Wazed as real patriot who worked throughout his life selflessly for the nation to build an economically and technologically advanced Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
They called upon the young generation to follow the ideals of Dr Wazed, an incomparable greedless patriot with excellent human qualities, to build a developed Sonar Bangla to realise the dream of Bangabandhu.
The district unit of AL will arrange milad mahfil followed by memorial discussion on the life and works of Dr Wazed at district AL office in the city tonight with the party’s acting district unit President Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
