RAJSHAHI, July 22, 2017 (BSS)- A mobile court seized 5,000 meters of current fishing nets from different areas in the Padma river under Godagari upazila of the district on Friday.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sanwar Hossain accompanied by police and BGB teams conducted massive raids at different areas and seized the current nets valued at around Taka 25 lakh.
Department of Fisheries conducted the mobile court as part of observing the National Fisheries week-2017.
However, none could be arrested in this connection as the fishermen fled away leaving the nets.
AC Land Sanwar Hossain told journalists that the local administration is determined to protect the brood indigenous fish species for their successful spawning in the area.
He said the fishermen were catching mother fishes violating the government ban.
All the law-violators will be brought to book as soon as possible, he added.
Meanwhile, the seized nets were destroyed instantly.
