DHAKA, July 28, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh’s next plan will revolve around the T20 cricket as they want to thrive in this format to bring up a good result in the World T20 to be held in Australia in 2020.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already appointed a fast bowling coach in Charl Langeveldt and spin coach in Daniel Vettori, keeping the World T20 in mind. All of the backroom staffs, who now have been working under BCB were given contract up to World T20, giving an indication how seriously the board has taken the tournament.

Selection panel chief Minhajul Abedin Nannu who got the extension till the World T20 alongside panel member Habibul Bashar Sumon said the next challenge is to form a formidable team for the T20 cricket, a format in which Bangladesh cricketers still remain vulnerable.

He stressed upon the needs to increase the players, fit for T20 cricket in the pipeline, in a bid to thrive in this format.

“Next we have got T20 World Cup and it’s the format in which we are not still good enough. We have started devising the plan for this,” he told the BSS here on Sunday.

“Some new coaches have been added in the management and we’ll sit with them to decide the next course of action. We have to keenly follow the domestic league to find out players for this format. The experience that we have as selectors, I believe we can overcome this challenge.”

The chief selector thanked BCB to extend their tenure and gave them the opportunity to form a formidable team for the T20 cricket. He termed it as challenging job but vowed to become successful.

“As a level 3 coach I know the technical side well. So I think it can find out right one for this format. The challenge we got for the next one year is to build up a team for T20. If we get support from all stakeholders, I think we can bring up a good result. It’s a teamwork indeed.”

Minhajul Abedin Nannu, the former national skipper, said that they have to work hard to materialize the dream. He also emphasized on organizing some exclusive T20 tournaments to find out a good number of players.

“We haven’t have any tournament other than BPL in this format. So it’s tough to find out players. We have to work hard. There is plan to organize some T20 tournament exclusively for the local players. I think we’ll get some good feedback once these tournaments begin.”

“We have sorted out 15-16 fast bowlers who will work under Champaka Ramanayake after Eid. There is also a plan to start a spin bowling camp. We are planning to find out raw cricketers from the grassroots level. Hopefully we’ll get good result after six months.”

The chief selector said at the moment 60 odd players have been in continuous cricket to give them an opportunity to find out form players for different teams. He termed it as good sign for the cricketing pipeline.

“At the moment, 60 players have been in continuous cricket in various platforms. This is particularly a good sign that we can never engage so many players in cricket at the same time. We have been getting good feedback.”
