Initiatives to be taken for journos’ pension: Menon

DHAKA, May 8, 2018 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon today said different initiatives would be taken for the retired journalists for providing different facilities including pension and group insurance.

“They (journalists) always represent the demand and rights of other people but they never asked for themselves… So initiatives would be taken for giving them different facilities including pension and group insurance,” he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organised by Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) at its auditorium at Circuit House Road in the city.

Menon said, Sangbadik Welfare Trust could take necessary steps to provide health services and other facilities.

“The number of allowance recipients would be increased in the next budget,” he assured.

PIB Director M Elius Bhuiyan presided over the programme while non- government organization Executive Director of Prabin Bandhu Dr Mahsin Kabir Limon presented key-note paper.

Director General of Probin Hitoishi Sangha and Professor of Social Welfare Department of Dhaka University Dr A S M Atikur Rahman, former General Secretary of Jatiya Press Club Swapan Kumar Saha, country director of Help Age International Rabeya Sultana Laizu and General Secretary of Bangladesh Sangbadik Odhikar Forum Ataur Rahman were present, among others.

Limon, in the key-note presentation said, according to different surveys there are around 11 per cent of elderly journalists are living measurable life.
