Bashundhara emerge as new BPL champions
DHAKA, July 25, 2019 (BSS)- Newcomer Bashundhara Kings won the prestigious
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football title after playing out 1-1 goal
draw with rejuvenated Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited on Thursday at Sheikh
Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari.
In the day’s proceeding, Diabate gave Bashundhara Kings a deserving lead
early in the 14th minute while Marcos restored the parity for Mohammedan in
the 41st minute of the match.
With this win, Bashundhara Kings took unassailable lead in the 13-team
table with 59 points from 22 matches ensuring their maiden league title in
debut season, emulating Sheikh Jamal’s feat in their debut season in 2010.
Six times league champions Abahani bagged 55 points from 23 matches, with
only one game in hand.
Bashundhara Kings have been in fantastic form since the start of the 11th
edition of the league in January, having posted 19 wins — 14 of those in a
row – along with only one draw. However, their 20-match unbeaten run was
ended by Sheikh Russel in their 21st match.
