BIWTA continues to clear the Buriganga

DHAKA, July 23, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority
(BIWTA) today evicted a total of 55 illegal establishments and two acres of
grabbed river bank while an eviction drive was held at the Buriganga
riverbank in Narayanganj today.

The BIWTA as per the instruction of the Shipping Ministry conducted the
drive from Aliganj playground to Meghna Petroleum Area of Fatullah, according
to an official release.

During the drive, a total of 55 structures including 7 one-storey
buildings , 2 two-storey buildings, 19 semi-pucca houses, 2 warehouses and 24
corrugated iron sheet houses were demolished, freeing the north bank of
Buriganga river.

The eviction drive will continue tomorrow (July 24) from Meghna Petroleum
Area of Fatullah towards Panchabati/Dharmaganj starting from 9am, the release
added.
