Govt. aims to achieve ‘zero hunger’: Shirin

DHAKA, July 22, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury today said that the government is working to achieve “Zero Hunger”
in the country.

“Bangladesh has become self-sufficient in food under the leadership and
practical directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina… The government is
working relentlessly with the particular vision to make Bangladesh free from
hunger”, Shirin said while addressing as chief guest of the fish fry
releasing ceremony at the Jatiya Sangsad Lake.

The ceremony was held on the occasion of ‘National Fisheries Week-2019’.

Dr Shirin said that because of the pragmatic initiatives taken by our
Prime Minister, Bangladesh has secured the fourth position in producing fish.

Shirin added that as fish is an important source of vital nutrient, the
government was working to increase its production, as well as trying to
improving the lives of the fishing community. She hoped that the success in
fish culture would increase even more in future.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru presided
over the ceremony, while secretary of the ministry Md Raisul Alam Mondal gave
the inaugural speech.

Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, Whip Mahbuba Ara
Begum Gini, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on disaster
management and relief AB Tajul Islam, chairman of the parliamentary standing
committee on ministry of Railway ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury and senior
secretariat officials were also present, at the ceremony.
