DHAKA, May 5, 2018 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today termed women of the country ‘the lighthouse of courage’, saying women of this region establish their rights by themselves.
Referring to a sentence of the last letter of Pritilata Waddedar ‘Sisters, do not treat yourselves as weak’, she said, “The example set by Pritilata embracing death to get freedom will inspire all the women and next generations for decades”.
The speaker was addressing a function at Jatiya Press Club here marking the 107th birth anniversary of Pritilata Waddedar.
Bhorer Kagoj, a Bangla daily, and Pritilata Trust organized the programme with Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta in the chair.
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam, Jatiya Mahila Sangstha Chairman Professor Mamtaz Begum and Pritilata Trust General Secretary Pankaj Chakraborty addressed the function, among others.
Executive Director of Nijera Kori Khushi Kabir presented a keynote paper in the programme.
The participation of women with firmness and brevity in all movements is appreciable, Shirin Sharmin said, adding that the women have inner power.
Urging all to take lessons from the glorious history of the country, she said liberation of the country is the outcome of sequential movements.
She also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina started a move for protecting democracy and completing unfinished works of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after coming home from exile in 1981.
However, under the leadership of the premier, the country already has become a role model for development in the world, the speaker said, adding that for this reason Sheikh Hasina has already emerged as the pioneer of the women leaders.
He hoped that Pritilata Complex in Chattogram would play a vital role in spreading the ideology and philosophy of Pritilata in the country.
