162 bridges, culverts constructed in 2 Rangpur upazilas

RANGPUR, July 20, 2019 (BSS) – The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has constructed 162 small bridges and culverts spending Taka 38.92 crore on the rural roads, canals and rivers improving communications in Mithapukur and Pirganj upazilas in last 10 years.

“The bridges and culverts have been constructed in the district under the ‘construction of bridge/culvert of around 15-metre in length on the rural roads’ project of the ministry,” District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer ATM Akhteruzzaman told BSS.

The infrastructures have been constructed to improve rural road communication networks and releasing excess water during calamities like floods to attain sustainable progress in rural areas on way to achieve the sustainable developments goals.

“Following construction of the bridges and culverts ranging from minimum 5 to maximum 18-metre in lengths with 4.5-metre in width, people of 32 unions in these two upazilas are reaping benefits of easy movement and transportation of agri-products to get fair price,” he said.

Talking to BSS, Project Implementation Officer (PIO) of Mithapukur upazila Md. Mosfiqur Rahman said 80 bridges and culverts have been constructed spending Taka 20.76 crore in all 17 unions of the upazila in last ten years.

The infrastructures have been constructed at different points on the rural roads, canals and rivers in all 17 unions of the upazila.

“Besides, construction works of 25 more bridges and culverts at a cost of Taka 5.54 crore are progressing fast during the current 2019-2020 FY in the upazila under the project,” PIO Mosfiqur said.

Talking to BSS, Chairman of Moyenpur union in Mithapukur upazila Mahabul Haque said 11 bridges and culverts have been constructed in the union alone in last ten years improving rural road communications and ending sufferings of two lakh people.

Pirganj upazila PIO Mizanur Rahman said 82 bridges and culverts have been constructed spending Taka 18.16 crore in last ten years in all 15 unions of the upazila bringing a revolutionary change in rural road communications in the upazila.

“In addition to this, construction works of 18 more bridges and culverts at Taka 4.25 crore are progressing at different places during the current 2019-2019 FY under the project to further improve rural road communications in the upazila,” PIO Rahman said.

Tukuria union Chairman in Pirganj upazila Ataur Rahman Mandal said construction of the bridges and culverts has fulfilled long-cherished demand of local people improving road communications all over the upazila as well as adjoining areas.

Pirganj upazila Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandal and Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mamun Bhuiyan expressed satisfaction over quality of construction works of the bridges and culverts those improved road communications in these two upazilas.
