DHAKA, July 18, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today appreciated destroying of date expired medicines worth Taka 36 crore so far across the country and asked to continue this work.
“This work is commendable, but you should continue with this. People, traders and manufacturers, all have to get aware,” a High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader said.
The court asked the state side to ensure manufacture and expiry dates be written on medicine strip clearly and in big letters in Bengali as well as in English.
The High Court on June 18 ordered authorities concerned to withdraw date expired medicines from the market and destroy those in a month.
The court had asking health secretary, director generals of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) and National Consumer Rights Protection (NCRP) to submit report on executing that order.
Following that order, DGDA and NCRP filed report on executing that order, saying the medicine manufacturing companies have so far destroyed expired medicines worth Taka 36, 41,95, 497 crore.
“152 cases have been filed through mobile courts after inspecting 4,587 pharmacies. Fine of Taka 1, 04, 89,200 Crore has already been realized,” the report said.
