Drama plays crucial role in all democratic movements: speaker

DHAKA, May 4, 2018 (BSS) – Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said the role of drama is crucial in all democratic movements of the country.

“Drama is one of effective ways to wage movement against any injustice, repression and different forms of deprivation,” he told the national conference of Bangladesh Group Theater Federation at the Shilpakala Academy here, an official release said.

Eminent cultural personalities Ramendu Majumdar, Mamunur Rashid, Nasir Uddin Yusuf Bachhu, among others, addressed the conference with Director General of Shilpakala Academy Liakat Ali Lucky in the chair.

Shirin said, “Historical events– independence and language movements — of Bangali nation were reflected in our literature. Many dramas have been made on different historical movements of Bangladesh.”

She described drama as mirror of the society and urged the litterateurs and cultural personalities to project real facts of society.

“We have rich cultural heritage as Bangali nation is cultural minded….. We all should preserve our cultural heritages through literature and drama,” the speaker added.
