Outgoing French ambassador calls on President

DHAKA, July 17, 2019 (BSS) – Outgoing French Ambassador to Bangladesh Marie-Annick BOURDIN today made a farewell call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.

During the meeting, President Hamid said bilateral relations between Bangladesh and France are very excellent and the relations have been expanding gradually, said President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin.

Thanking the envoy for successful completion of her tenure in Bangladesh, the President said, the connectivity of people between Bangladesh and France has increased.

“France is an excellent destination of exports for Bangladeshi goods. I express my gratitude to the French government and its people as it has been providing all-out cooperation to Bangladesh for its socio-economic development,” President Hamid said.

The head of the state hoped that the ties between the two countries would be stronger in days to come.

President Hamid also recalled with gratitude the contributions of French which recognized Bangladesh as one of the first European countries, after Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.

He expressed his gratefulness to French for providing intellectual support during the nine-month long Liberation War.

Expressing her gratitude to the President and the Bangladesh government for their heartfelt cooperation, BOURDIN said France is always keen to enhance the bilateral relations with Bangladesh.

France has been giving necessary supports to the renewable and solar energy sector in Bangladesh, she mentioned.

The outgoing ambassador hoped that the relations between the two countries would strengthen in different fields in the coming days.

Secretaries concerned to the President’s office and high officials of foreign ministry and France embassy were present on the occasion.
