DHAKA, July 17, 2019 (BSS) – Describing Bangladesh as a wonder of the world, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged the students to take forward the country’s advancement by upholding the spirit of the Liberation War.

“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman once said golden sons are needed to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ and you’re the real golden sons who will take Bangladesh’s ideology forward,” she said.

The prime minister also advised them to love the people and work with devotion to build a developed and prosperous Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu.

“You’ll have to work devotedly for developing the country side by side with building your own life,” she said.

The prime minister was distributing medals among 12 extraordinarily talented students at Ganobhaban here this morning. They were selected through a countrywide innovative talent hunt programme.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni presided over the function, while Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel was present on the dais.

Among the students, Persia Nawar spoke at the function expressing her feeling about getting the medal. Senior Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division Sohrab Hossain moderated the function.

Noting Bangladesh’s tremendous development that took place in the last one decade, the prime minister said Bangladesh is now a wonder of the world and a role model of development. “The continuity of development will have to be maintained,” she said.

Terming new generations as the future of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said, “We want to move with dignity and keeping our head high.”

The prime minister said there were false propaganda against Bangladesh and efforts were made to keep Bangladesh a nation of beggars.

“We want to overcome this situation and we’re taking every step and implementing a long-term plan to achieve the goal,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said her government wants to groom the new generations in such a way so that they get mental strength to move with dignity.

“We want talent and creativity of theirs to be flourished and we’re conducting all programmes by giving attention to this end,” she said.

The premier said the people were once deprived of knowing true history of victory and sacrifice of the martyrs.

“They were used to teach distorted history of the nation. But we’ve taken talent hunt programme so that the new generations could know the real history of the liberation war and we’re now seeing its results,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangabandhu dreamt of establishing a Sonar Bangla. “But I think an educated nation is needed to materialise his dream and for building an educated nation, it’s necessary to give scope for flourishing the merits and thinking of the students,” she said.

“We want the new generations to get a scope for showing their creativity and learn to love the country alongside pursuing education properly,” she added.

The prime minister said the aim of her government is to build the state beautifully and take the nation to a dignified position in the world.

“We want to build Bangladesh in the spirit of the liberation war and turn it into a hunger-and-poverty-free Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu,” she said.

Mentioning her government’s various steps for development of education, Sheikh Hasina said education is one kind of light which gives us scope to flourish and nothing could be achieved without it.

“So it’s our goal to make sure that not a single boy or a girl is deprived of education,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina directed authorities concerned to formulate a time-befitting curriculum for proper education and take steps to develop the country considering its geographical location, climate and population.
