Rajshahi attains surplus fish production

RAJSHAHI, July 17, 2019 (BSS) – Rajshahi district has produced more than 80,899.79 metric tons of fishes last fiscal year against the demand for 58,858.75 metric tons.

The district has also attained significant success in fish spawn and fish fingerling production which are also surplus than the existing demand.

Alok Kumar Shaha, District Fisheries Officer, said this at a press conference at DC’s conference room on inauguration of the National Fisheries Week’ 2019 here today.

Fish production has increased significantly in the result after taking multidimensional development and extension programs, he said.

The fishery officer said about 3,161 kilograms of fish fingerlings were released last year in 771 hectares of internal water-bodies to increase fish production.

The district has 18,757 registered fishermen and out of them 17,382 fishermen have identity cards to receive supports and incentives from the government.
