73.93pc pass HSC, equivalent exams; 47,286 get GPA-5

DHAKA, July 17, 2019 (BSS) – A total of 73.93 percent of examinees passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations-2019 held under 10 education boards of the country this year.

“As many as 47,286 students achieved maximum grade point average GPA-5 this year,” Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni told a press conference on HSC and equivalent results at her ministry here today.

Among the GPA-5 holders, 24,576 are male students and 22,710 are female, she said, adding a total of 41,807 students achieved GPA-5 under eight general education boards, 2243 students under madrasa education board and 3,236 under technical education board.

A total of 13,36,629 students from 8,985 educational institutions appeared in this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations, she said, adding among the examinees, 9,88,172 students have been successful in the HSC and equivalent examinations.

A total of 12,88,757 examinees appeared in the HSC and equivalent examinations last year.

Dr Dipu Moni handed over a summary of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Ganabhaban residence here this morning.

Later, chairmen of 10 education boards handed over the results of their respective board to the prime minister.

Female students in the HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) and equivalent examinations have outnumbered the male students in terms of pass rate this year.

According to the results published here today, percentage of pass of female students is 76.44 while that of the male students is 71.67.

On an average 73.93 percent of examinees passed examinations under 10 education boards of the country.

As many as 703,000 male students participated in the examination while the number of female students was 6,33,629, she added.

A total of 909 educational institutions achieved 100 percent pass rate in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations-2019 across the country this year.

Of those, 52 institutions are from Dhaka Board, 34 from Rajshahi, 31 from Cumilla, 18 from Jashore, 4 from Chattogram, 5 from Barishal, 7 from Sylhet and 20 from Dinajpur while the number of hundred percent successful institutions under Madrasa Board is 615 and 121 in technical board.

A total of 400 educational institutions achieved 100 percent pass rate in the HSC and its equivalent exams last year.

Students of 41 colleges and madrasas under seven out of 10 Education Boards failed to come out successful in this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations.

The number of zero pass rate institutions is 15 in Dhaka Board, seven in Rajshahi Board, three in Cumilla, one in Chattogram, seven in Dinajpur, seven in Madrasah Board and 1 in Dhaka (DIBS) board.

The number of colleges and madrasas with `zero results’ was 55 last year.

Cumilla Board has secured the top position among eight general educational boards with 77.74 percent pass rate in the HSC examinations this year.

A total of 94,360 students appeared in the examination under Cumilla Board. Of them, 73,358 have come out successful.

The pass rate of Rajshahi Board is 76.38 percent, while it is 71.09 percent in Dhaka, 75.65 percent in Jashore, 62.19 percent in Chattogram, 70.65 percent in Barisal, 67.05 in Sylhet and 71.78 in Dinajpur Board.

Students under Chattogram Education Board performed poor in terms of pass rate compared to other education boards with 62.19 percent pass rate.

The eight general education boards secured 71.85 percent pass rate with 41,807 GPA-5 achievers in the Higher Education Certificate (HSC) examinations this year.

A total of 11,26,126 students appeared in the examinations while 8,09,149 came out successful under eight general education boards, according to the results published today.

The pass rate has increased by 7.29 percentage points to 73.93 per cent from last year’s 66.64 per cent.

Number of GPA-5 achievers also increased as 29,262 students attained the maximum grade point average (GPA) in last year’s examinations.

The Technical Education Board secured 82.62 percent pass rate in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations this year.

Some 3236 students scored the (Grade Point Average) GPA-5. Of them, 1323 are male students and 1913 are female.

Under the board, some 1,24,320 examinees appeared at the examinations while 1,02,715 came out successful. Of the successful students, 70,788 are male and 31,927 female.

A total of 2,456 students scored GPA-5 from Technical Education Board last year with 75.50 percent pass rate.

Madrasah Education Board secured 88.56 percent pass rate with 2,243 Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 achievers in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations this year.

Of the GPA-5 achievers under the board, 1323 are male and 1913 are female, according to the results.

Some 86,138 students appeared in the examinations and 76,281 came out successful under the Madrasah Board.

Of the successful students, 48,000 are male and 38,138 female.

The Madrasah board secured 78.87 percent pass with 1,244 Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 achievers in the examinations last year.

As many as 254 students of seven overseas centres came out successful in the HSC examinations this year with 94.07 percent pass rate.

A total of 270 students appeared in the examinations from the overseas centres. Of the successful students, 26 got GPA-5.

Students of Science Group secured top position with 33192 GPA-5 in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations this year.

A total of 3990 students got GPA-5 from Business Studies Group and 4625 from Humanities group.

As many as 2,62,952 examinees from science group appeared in the HSC examinations this year, 5,98,294 from humanities group and 2,64,880 from Business Studies Group.
