President asks PGR members to maintain chain of command

DHAKA, July 16, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked President’s Guard Regiment (PGR) to play apt role following chain of command at all the levels in the forces for upholding its image.

“Play due role to uphold your attained glory . . . Discharge your duty in a proper manner following the chain of command of the forces,” the President said while addressing a function at Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of the 44rd founding anniversary of President’s Guard Regiment.

“I do believe that you would continue to do your tasks sincerely as you uphold country’s dignity attending different state programmes alongside ensuring the foolproof security of the VVIPs,” he said.

Hamid said the area of PGR’s responsibilities is increasing gradually and the regiment’s organisational structure has already been enhanced.

Mentioning that the PGR is a specialised part of country’s prideful army, the President said army’s hard work has made their image brighter at home and abroad.

“Your devotion, discipline, patriotism and awareness to your respective responsibilities and expertise have really impressed me frequently,” he opined.

Mentioning that members of the regiment always work braving all odds, including adverse weather, he said, “Your sincere duties are highly appreciated. It is my expectation that you will work honestly to uphold this reputation.”

President Hamid also lauded army’s participation in different development works, especially in the supervision of the construction of multipurpose Padma Bridge.

At the outset of his speech, the President paid respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying that Bangabandhu, the greatest Bangalee of all times, established the PGR on July 5 in 1975 by recruiting smart officers and soldiers of Bangladesh Army.

The president also expressed his belief that regiment members will always remain determined to work hard with dutifulness and devotion in the days to come.

Earlier, on her arrival at the PGR headquarters, the President Hamid was received by Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed and PGR Commander Brigadier General Md Jahangir Harun.

A smartly turned out guard presented state salute to the President, also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Division.

Abdul Hamid also cut a cake on the occasion. Secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban, senior civil and military officials concerned, among others, were present there.
