Amateur Radio Operator’s drill held to combat disaster

DHAKA, July 15, 2019 (BSS) – The drill of Amateur Radio Operators was held
today in several districts across the country with a call to keep
communication system operative during disaster to deal with any emergency
situation.

Over 150 Amateur Radio Operators, also known as radio amateurs or hams
participated in the drill session organised by Amateur Radio Society of
Bangladesh (SRSB), a press release said.

As a part of the drill, several radio stations were set up in Faridpur,
Manikganj, Gopalganj and Munshiganj districts while the control room was
installed in Dhaka to make a communication link with the stations, the
release added.

Anup Bhowmik, one of the participants, said the main purpose of this drill
was to gain ability to send emergency messages using low-powered radio to
remote stations in line with control room.

During the drill, participants also acquired detailed knowledge about Slow
Scan television (SSTV) so that they could make proper utilization of it to
help people endangered in disaster, the release added.
