Historic May Day observed in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 2, 2018 (BSS) – The historic May Day-2018 was observed in Rangpur division yesterday with a fresh call for building excellent relations between owners and workers and ensuring rights and workplace safety of the working people.

The district administrations, Directorate of Labour, different workers’, labourers’, traders’, professionals’, socio-cultural, political and volunteer and human rights’ organisations chalked out elaborate out programmes at the district towns in observance of the day.

The programmes included hoisting of the national, organisational and red flags, releasing balloons, bringing out colourful rallies, processions, human chains, serving improved diets to the workers, discussions and colourful cultural functions in the city.

In Rangpur city, the district administration, Regional Directorate of Labour, different workers’ organisations brought out colourful processions on the streets giving the city a festive look before gathering at the Central Shaheed Minar premises.

The district administration with Jatiya Sramik League (JSL) brought out the main rally from the Deputy Commissioner’s office chanting slogans in favour of the working people.

The district units of Jatiya Rickshaw Van Sramik League, Jatiya Bidyut Sramik League, Samajtantrik Sramik Front, Motor Sramik Union and Sommilito Garments’ Sramik Federation, Rupali Bank Sramik League, Sonali Bank Sramik League brought out processions.

The district units of Sommilito Garments’ Sramik Federation, Electronic Sramik Union, Truck and Tank Lorry Sramik League, Karmojibi Nari, Electric Sramik Kallyan Samobai Samity, Krishi-Farm Sramik Federation, Dokan Karmochari Union observed the day.

The district and city units of Awami League (AL), its associate bodies, Communist Party of Bangladesh, JASOD, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Ganatantry Party, Workers’ Party and many trade organisations also observed the day.

The district administration jointly with the Regional Directorate of Labour organised the main discussion meeting at Town Hall auditorium.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib addressed the main discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rabiul Islam in the chair.

Additional Police Super Fazle Elahi, Assistant Director of the Regional Directorate of Labour and Employment Md Sadekuzzaman, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its GS Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi, its GS Tushar Kanti Mandal, President of district unit of JSL Abdus Salam, its GS Shahidul Islam and GS of district Mohila Sramik League Latifa Begum Mira spoke.

The chief guest narrated various steps taken by the present government for ensuring the rights of the workers to improve their life standard and build admirable relations between the owners and workers for upholding real sprit of the historic day.

He also highly appreciated the enormous contribution of the working people to the national progress and put importance on ensuring their proper wages and welfare for building a middle income nation by 2021 and developed country by 2041.

Similarly, the day was observed befittingly through identical programmes in Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari and Gaibandha district towns and all 58 upazila headquarters in Rangpur division.
