Seminar on Vitamin-D deficiency held

DHAKA, July 11, 2019 (BSS)- A seminar on Vitamin-D deficiency was held today in city’s Kurmitola General Hospital (KGH) under Dhaka Cantonment area.

It was jointly organized by Department of Medicine of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) and KGH with AFMC Commandant Maj Gen Md Mustafizur Rahman in the chair, an ISPR release said.

Major General Md Fashiur Rahman, Director General Medical Services graced the occasion as chief guest.

AFMC Professor and Head of Department of Medicine Brig Gen Md Abdur Razzak and KGH Assistant Professor of Dept of Medicine Dr Md Abdullahel Kafee addressed the seminar, it added.

Maj Gen Md Azizul Islam, Consultant Physician General was present as special guest while KGH Director Brig Gen Quazi Md Rashid-Un- Nabi delivered the welcome speech at the programme.

During the time, the speakers highlighted the various aspects of Vitamin D.

Currently Vitamin D deficiency is a global health problem and an ignored and under-diagnosed epidemic, they said at the programme.

About 80-90 percent of world population has been suffering from Vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency, they said, adding that the main source of Vitamin D is ultraviolet ray of sunlight.

All the doctors of KGH and head of the departments of AFMC and senior officers from CMH, Dhaka were present.

Besides, newly passed intern doctors of AFMC, currently working in CMH, Dhaka and KGH were given a reception in the programme, sponsored by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited.
